Road closures: a dozen for Birmingham drivers over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around Birmingham will have 12 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And six of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that four closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

• M6, from 8pm November 13 2023 to 6am February 5 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, jct six to jct 5, lane closures for bridge joint replacement works.

• M6, from 9pm November 27 2023 to 6am March 9 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 both directions jct five to jct seven, carriageway, link roads and lane closures for drainage works.

• A446, from 9pm November 27 2023 to 5am December 10 2026, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M42 both directions jct 7A to jct nine and M6 both directions jct 3A to M42, Lane and carriageway closures for construction works for HS2.

And a further eight closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M6, from 8pm December 4 to 6am December 9, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, link roads to Salford Circus, carriageway closure for inspection/survey works.

• M6, from 9pm December 7 to 6am December 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 both directions, junction 7 to junction 6, Lane closures for barrier repairs.

• M6, from 9pm December 7 to 6am December 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 4A to junction 5, lane closures for carriageway reconstruction works.

• M6, from 9pm December 8 to 6am December 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 3 to junction 3A, Lane closure for barrier works.

• M5, from 9pm December 11 to 6am December 12, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound and southbound, junction 2 to junction 3, Lane closures due to barrier repairs.

• A4123, from 10pm December 11 to 6am December 13, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 both directions jct eight to M5 jct one, carriageway closure for survey works.

• A4123, from 8pm December 12 to 6am December 13, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M5 northbound and southbound, junction 3, exit slip road carriageway closure and lane closure for communication works, diversion via National Highways network.

• M5, from 9pm December 13 to 6am December 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 4 to junction 3, Lane closures for barrier repairs.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
