Northern Ireland and Scotland have case rates five times higher than in Wales, official figures show.

There were 254,392 positive cases in the UK in the week ending February 24, a 22% fall from the week before.

In Birmingham cases have dropped by a third - there were 2082 new cases in the week ending February 24, compared with 3117 in the week before.

But there are 20 council areas across the UK which saw cases rise in the past week, 16 of them in Scotland.

At a regional level, Northern Ireland had the highest case rate in the week to February 24, at 855.1 cases per 100,000 residents.

This was followed by Scotland, with 828.8 cases per 100,000 residents.

The lowest case rate was in Wales, with 162.5 cases per 100,000 residents.

The figures include both positive PCR and lateral flow tests.

They include people infected with Covid-19 for the first time as well as reinfections.

Not all neighbourhoods in Birmingham are seeing a drop in infection rates, but the majority are.

Only fifteen neighbourhoods in Birmingham have seen an increase in cases over the last week - you can see the top five below.

At neighbourhood level, Covid-19 case rates have been published for the week to February 24.

Hall Green Central has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 156.9 from 358.6 cases per 100,000 people to 271.1.

2. Brandwood East

Brandwood East has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 54.5% from 173.8 cases per 100,000 people to 268.6.

3. Druids Heath

Druids Heath has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 44.5% from 145 cases per 100,000 people to 209.5.

4. Five Ways South & Calthorpe Park

Five Ways South & Calthorpe Park has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 40.0% from 136.4 cases per 100,000 people to 190.9.

5. Lozells West

Biggest fall

Here are the neighbourhoods in Birmingham with the biggest drop in case rates in the past week.

1. Hay Mills & Tyseley

Hay Mills & Tyseley has seen case rates of positive Covid cases fall by 75.0%, from 257.5 cases per 100,000 people to 64.4.

2. Balsall Heath West & Kingswood Road

Balsall Heath West & Kingswood Road has seen case rates of positive Covid cases fall by 71.4%, from 297.7 cases per 100,000 people to 85.1.

3. Quinton East

4. Birches Green

Birches Green has seen case rates of positive Covid cases fall by 67.6%, from 480.6 cases per 100,000 people to 155.9.

Perry Common - College Road has seen case rates of positive Covid cases fall by 66.7% from 377.2 cases per 100,000 people to 125.7.
