Birmingham road closures: nine for motorists to avoid over the next fortnight

Birmingham's motorists will have nine road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And three of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing holdups of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that three closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M6, from 9pm May 31 to 6am June 20, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, jct six between exit and entry slip roads, Lane and carriageway closure for resurfacing works.

• M6, from 9pm June 14 to 6am June 28, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, jct five exit slip road, carriageway closure for resurfacing works.

• M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

And a further six closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M6, from 8.30pm June 19 to 4.30am June 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, jct five to jct 6, lane closures for inspection/survey works.

• M5, from 9pm June 21 to 6am June 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 northbound, junction 4 to junction 3, lane closure for carriageway - reconstruction/renewal.

• M6, from 9pm June 21 to 6am June 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, jct seven to jct 6, lane closure for technology repairs.

• M5, from 9pm June 26 to 6am July 15, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, jct five to jct eight and M5 northbound to M6 southbound, link and junction 7 southbound, slip roads, Lane and slip road carriageway closures for technology works.

• M6, from 9pm June 28 to 6am July 1, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, jct four to jct 5, lane closures and carriageway closure of jct five exit slip for resurfacing works.

• M6, from 9pm July 3 to 6am July 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, jct four to jct 5, lane closures and full closure of jct five exit slip for barrier repairs.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
