Birmingham road closures: almost a dozen for motorists to avoid this week

Birmingham's motorists will have 10 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

Birmingham's motorists will have 10 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week.

And three of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing holdups of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that two closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2022, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

A5, from 9pm December 8 2021 to 5.30am September 30 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A5 westbound, hints bypass between the A453 and A38 junctions, (tamworth to lichfield), temporary speed, lane closures with switching and narrow lanes running for general construction works.

And a further eight closures will begin over the next seven days:

M5, from 9pm June 13 to 6am June 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6, junction 7 northbound and southbound, full exit slip closures for local authority works on behalf of Sandwell.

A38(M), from 9.30pm June 15 to 5.30am June 16, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A38M southbound, link road (DC) into birmingham city, lane closure on link road for internal box beam inspections.

A446, from 9pm June 16 to 6am June 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6, junction 4 southbound, entry slip road and junction 4 roundabout, closure of, junction 4 southbound, entry slip road and various lane closures at, junction 4 roundabout, diversion via M6 northbound, turnaround at, junction 5 and return to M6 southbound.

M6, from 9pm June 16 to 6am June 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 6 to junction 8, Lane closure for inspection/survey.

M5, from 9pm June 16 to 6am June 17, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6, junction 7 northbound and southbound, full exit slip closures for local authority works on behalf of Sandwell.

M6, from 8pm June 20 to 6am June 21, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 4 to junction 2, Lane closures for vegetation clearance.

M6, from 8pm June 20 to 6am July 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 3 to junction 4, Lane closure for White Lining/Road Markings.

M6, from 9pm June 20 to 5am June 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 7 to junction 4A, Lane closure for communications.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
