This decision was made in response to the council’s financial crisis, which has been described as 'effective bankruptcy’.

The financial crisis was triggered by several factors, including a £760m bill to settle equal pay claims, an £80m overspend on an IT project, and a projected budget overspend As a result, the council issued a Section 114 notice, which is a formal admission that it was effectively bankrupt.

Are there changes to bin collection times in Birmingham over Easter?

Birmingham City Council has confirmed that the bin collection schedule in Birmingham will remain unchanged over the Easter holidays.

Residents are advised to "put their bins out as usual, ensuring that the city's waste management services continue to operate smoothly during this period."

Despite the public holidays, the council has made arrangements to ensure that all waste collection services, including general waste, recycling, and garden waste, will continue as per the regular schedule. This means that if your bin collection day falls on a holiday, your bins will still be collected.
