When Pip, also known for her business Pip’s Hot Sauce, first launched the market, it was a bold response to negativity surrounding Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) changes on York Road.

Today, it stands as a testament to the strength and creativity of micro-businesses, firmly establishing York Road as the independent heart of Kings Heath.

“It’s mad to think how much has changed since we started,” says Pip. “What began as a way to bring something positive to the area has evolved into a thriving hub for independent traders.”

The success of the Kings Heath Artisan Market has had a ripple effect, paving the way for more independent-led events in the area.

Birmingham Artisan Markets CIC, the organisation behind the event, has since expanded its reach, launching markets in the Jewellery Quarter, Bournville, and, most recently, Bearwood.

Additionally, artisan events at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens showcase just how much the appetite for trader-focused markets has grown.

Now, for its 2025 launch on March 9th, the Kings Heath Artisan Market promises to be bigger and better than ever.

York Road will be lined with a record number of stalls featuring the best of Birmingham’s micro-independents. Expect an exciting mix of artists, potters, bakers, candlemakers, t-shirt designers, jam producers, homeware creators, and even a taste of Birmingham’s own gin. Of course, Pip’s Hot Sauce will be making an appearance too.

“What I love most is seeing so many first-time traders alongside familiar faces,” says Pip. “The market is all about giving small businesses a platform, and it’s incredible to see how many have grown from here.”

Beyond the market stalls, visitors will also get to experience the fantastic bricks-and-mortar independents of York Road and the wider Kings Heath area, making it a full day of shopping, eating, and celebrating local talent.

With its ever-growing reputation and influence, Kings Heath Artisan Market is proving that supporting small businesses isn’t just a trend—it’s a movement. Whether you’re a market regular or a newcomer, the 2025 launch is set to be an unmissable event. So, mark your calendars and head down to York Road on March 9th to experience the best of Birmingham’s independent scene.
