Grevy’s zebras are classified as endangered in the wild. There are thought to be around 3,000 other Grevy’s zebras – making Lola’s birth even more important, according to the safari park’s Facebook page.

A spokesperson for West Midland Safari Park said on its Facebook page: “We’re delighted to announce that our female Grevy’s zebra, Akuna, has given birth to a beautiful baby girl! The foal arrived in the early hours of March 17, and keepers have called her Lola.

“Every Grevy’s zebra birth is important, as this species is classed as ‘endangered’ in the wild, with numbers estimated at around 3,000.

“Lola will be settling in with mum and will be out and about on the safari soon. She’ll share her home with white rhino, congo buffalo and antelope!”
