We visit Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas Market to find out this year's prices and what's new for 2024

Birmingham’s Christmas Market opened its doors on Friday, November 1 - here are this year’s prices

Today was the official opening of the Frankfurt Christmas Market in Victoria Square and New Street.

The market returns to the city for seven weeks and celebrates its 24th year, featuring 60 festive stalls selling traditional hot gluhwein, schnitzel, spicy sausage, gifts, handcrafted decorations, toys and jewellery.

The big wheel and popular ice rink will also be returning to Centenary Square, and will open from 1 November 2024 until 5 January 2025, between 10:00am and 10:00pm (except on Christmas Day).

I headed down to the market on Friday morning to speak with the organisers and to find out what we can expect this year.

Cllr Sharon Thompson, Deputy Leader, Birmingham City Council, told BirminghamWorld: “With this being the first day of the German Market we’re expecting quite a few people to come in from the city centre.

“With it being here this winter it brings in millions of people from across - not just Birmingham - but in the UK and also Europe.”

What’s new this year?

Cllr Thompson explained that this year there are the same number of stalls as last year but in addition there are five new craft market stalls for people to enjoy. “This will provide more variety for people,” she said.

She added: “One of the great things about this German market is it brings in 7,000 jobs while it’s here, which is great for the local economy and over £200 million comes through so it’s great for Birmingham which has hosted the market for over 20 years.”
