Alton Towers has breathed new life into the iconic Nemesis rollercoaster, which has been under renovation since its closure in November 2022. Aged at 28 years, the ride has finally reopened, giving roller coaster enthusiasts a first look at what to anticipate.

At an initial glance, the newly transformed Nemesis Reborn appears to be strikingly intimidating. The journey seems more perilous as the drama of its backstory unfolds, with a secretive organisation having taken control of the alien predator from another dimension, much to the dismay of advocates who believe Nemesis should be free.

The ride itself delivers an intense experience as it navigates through inversions at a top speed of approximately 50mph, Despite this, the experience remains smooth, particularly after the installation of the upgrades. Despite being an almost 30-year-old ride, it's still a thrill-packed, although short, ride.

Interestingly, even though the renovation involved replacement of the entire track, Nemesis maintains its familiar charm, only now with a new façade full of eerie motifs that are woven into a storyline, thereby building anticipation for the ride. It appears to offer an entirely new experience.

Lauren says: “The last time I went on, I thought I was going to die. So I wasn't actually going to go on it again because I was traumatised. It actually felt safer… I felt like I was going to die. Scarier. Safer and scarier, if it could be. But yeah, I absolutely loved it. And I loved the storyline and theme a lot more this time. For me, it was absolutely brilliant.”

John says: “Breathtaking. It takes your breath away. Doing it at night when it's cold and the steam and everything, it really adds a sense of atmosphere. All the new additions really blew me away.”

This year, Alton Towers anticipates embracing other changes in addition to the relaunch of Nemesis. The theme park has planned a series of Alton After Dark events throughout the coming month, which includes new VIP packages, track walks, and a return of Hex. 2024 seems set to be a thrilling year for Alton Towers.
