Park Regis hotel at Five Ways has officially launched their new restaurant Indus which opens to the public this Friday (May 6).
The food is prepared using traditional methods while adding a contemporary twist.
John Angus, Managing Director of Switch Hospitality Management, says: “The difference here is the training of the chefs. Bringing a Tandoor Oven into a hotel is very rare. You tend to find that mainly Tandoor cooking and Tandoor ovens are mainly in your best, best Indian restaurants. That’s where everything’s cooked on an open flame - proper Indian cooking.”
The new eatery will serve up a taste of India to hotel guests and the people of Birmingham, with a focus on fresh, quality ingredients and traditional cooking methods.
Mr Angus says the decision to open an Indian restaurant at Park Regis was driven by the hotel’s owners, who are of Indian heritage, and by the desire to create a premium dining experience for guests.
He says the restaurant will be a welcome addition to the city’s culinary scene, and believes its location in the heart of Birmingham will be a key strength.
“I think as well, having Birmingham as the curry capital of the UK makes it much more in keeping with the addition of Indus restaurant,” he says.
“And again, as we said before, Indus is all about heritage. Technically the word India came from Indus in the Indus River. So we are just taking that actual curry culture but actually developing it even further.”
Mr Angus says the restaurant’s team includes members from India, who have brought with them a wealth of knowledge and experience.
“Our owners are Indian. We have a number of team members actually from India, our actual head chef has been trained in the best restaurants in India,” he says.
“So that team came to us and said that they wanted to open an Indian restaurant. And obviously Park Regis is the number one hotel in the UK. Our strategy is to open the best Indian restaurant.”
He says the restaurant has been warmly received by guests since opening, and is already proving popular with diners.
“So far, we’ve had to close our opening night. overall demand is very good. And it just keeps on going,” he says.
Mr Angus says the aim is to create a memorable dining experience for guests, and he encourages people to come and try the food for themselves.
“Well, I think it’s all about creating an experience. Park Regis is, as we said before, it’s a premium property in Birmingham. We are very proud of our service and our team. And we look forward to welcoming you to our new restaurant.”
