Pink has got the party started in Birmingham as her Summer Carnival tour landed in Villa Park. With her aerial acrobatics and huge stunts, the crowd was treated to a show like no other.

Pink is already well known for pushing the boat out when it comes to her shows but the Summer Carnival takes it to the next level. The Grammy-award winning singer was inspired to include trapeze moves into her own shows after seeing similar aerials in Cher’s Farewell tour in the early 2000’s.

According to People, Pink wanted to be an Olympic gymnast before she was a singer: “And once you get to fly, why would you not?” And she’s not kidding about the flying as she whizzes around the stadium doing all sorts of acrobatics at every opportunity.

Starting the show by jumping out of a giant mouth above the stage, the American singer and her dancers took to the skies time and time again. Even her skirt was delivered by air at one point.

It’s like you’re watching a circus act at times as the American singer contorts her body while suspended in the air above all of her adoring fans. It’s also a really clever way of getting out to the people further back without having to extend the stage too far into the audience and cutting down on the space.

Side note - if you haven’t watched Pink’s documentary from the 2019 Beautiful Trauma tour on Prime Video then I really recommend it as you see the work that goes into creating the show and all those stunts! Anyway, back to her Villa Park show.

The 43-year-old has a repertoire spanning decades and couldn’t possibly perform every single song (well, she could and I’d happily pay to sit there listening to her for days!) but the songs she does pick are serious fan favourites. For all of us in our 30s who grew up with Pink from a small child, this show is like a tour of core memories throughout the years.

Kicking off with ‘Get The Party Started’, her setlist includes some of the classics in ‘Just Like a Pill’, ‘Please Don’t Leave Me’ and ‘Who Knew’, through to her newest hits ‘Trustfall’ and ‘Never Gonna Not Dance’. She also treated the crowd to a duet with her daughter Willow to ‘Cover Me In Sunshine’ and a rendition of Adele’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’.

To add to the spectacle, there are pyrotechnics galore with fireworks for multiple songs as well as fire shooting out of the stage for ‘Just Like Fire’. Then there are the stunning costumes - Pink does loads of costume changes and has the sparkliest bodysuits and jackets you could imagine.

Taking to Instagram after the show, Pink wrote: “BIRMINGHAM thank you for the opportunity to be with you again.”

The Summer Carnival is a party that you never want to end and certainly lives up to Pink’s motto of “bigger, better, faster”. The tour is in Birmingham for a second night before it moves on to London and around the rest of Europe.

If you’ve managed to secure yourself some tickets then here’s all the information you need to know ahead of the gig including where to park and what you can’t take into the stadium.
