Oktoberfest is back at the largest theme park in the UK - Alton Towers - and families can have a fun day while enjoying the beer festival. The official festival will run from September 16 to October 3, 2023 in Munich, Bavaria. However, the festival has taken a global shape since many years with several Birmingham and West Midlands venues hosting celebrations.
Oktoberfest began in 1810 when Kronprinz Ludwig (later King Ludwig I of Bavaria) married the Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen in Munich. It was supposed to be a party held in celebration of the royal marriage but becam an annual festival.
In the West Midlands, Alton Towers Resort has transformed a part of its 500-acre theme park into a Bavarian-themed destination, complete with Lederhosen-clad hosts, lots of oomptastic live entertainment, delicious German themed food. This year, the Resort is also offering an exclusive Alton Beer, the Laugh & Scream Lager, created with Rural Brewing Co in the heart of Alton.
This family-friendly event will last until Sunday, October 1. From traditional bratwursts, to vegan options, a double decker Alpine themed bar and spectacular stage shows - it’s going to be the place to party.
For those looking for a more laidback Bavarian experience, the Bierkeller located in Alton Towers’ Mutiny Bay’s Courtyard is the perfect place to relax and unwind while singing along to German tunes and sampling authentic German biers.
Currently Alton Towers admission tickets includes access to Oktoberfest - which will take place from 11.30am and continue after the rides have closed. There will be two stages featuring vocalists, characters and an oompah band, Oomparty, who will perform modern day hits with a German twist, and a lot more.
Several celebrities, including Mollie Gallagher, Molly Marsh & Zach Noble, Elle Mulvane and Samia Longchambon, livened the launch of the festival on Saturday (September 9). Here are 11 photos of celebrities from Oktoberfest at Alton Towers:
