King Charles III’s Coronation is being celebrated with a huge array of parites and events in Birmingham city centre and beyond. The nation has been given an extra bank holiday to mark the crowning of the new British monarch with jubilations taking place from May 6 to 8 - it’s going to be party, party, party.
The royal occasion, which is being held at Westminster Abbey, marks Charles and Camilla’s official ascension to the throne following the death of our beloved previous monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
Prior to the Coronation big day, the Royal Family have been visiting different cities across the country, with the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, making a stop in Birmingham last month - being guests at the Indian Streatery on Bennetts Hill and The Rectory in the Jewellery Quarter, where they played darts at the 180 Club.
While the official coronation will take place in London, the West Midlands is going above and beyond in its celebrations. From Birmingham to Solihull to West Brom - there’s something to do in your community to celebrate all things British.
Birmingham City Council has announced a big screen and free events in Centenary Square - see full details below, along with 21 other Kings Coronation events you can go to:
1. Centenary Square, Birmingham city centre
The main official celebrations in Birmingham will be taking place in Centenary Square - with two days of live music, including performances from local acoustic musicians, choirs, live bands, cultural entertainment, street entertainers a fun fair and more. You can also watch the Coronation event and Coronation concert live on a giant screen. There will be family-friendly community focussed activities on May 6 and 7 from 1pm to 9pm. The fun fair will include rides for all the family. 2. Cannon Hill Park
Music for Youth is staging a national event for young musicians to mark the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort. Funded by Arts Council England made possible thanks to National Lottery players, the Coronation Bandstand Project will seethousands of young musicians perform on bandstands in public parks across all 9 regions in England from 6 – 8 May 2023. 3. Sandwell Valley Countrypark
At the Sandwell Valley Countrypark in West Bromwich, a free live screening of the Coronation Concert being held at Windsor Castle will take place on Sunday, May 7. Diverse performances from entertainers from across Sandwell will also be held before the concert gets underway. There will also be fair rides, community stalls and children’s crafts and games at the countrypark. 4. Garden party at Luna Springs, Digbeth
The venue is celebrating the extra May bank holiday on Sunday 7th May with a huge open-air garden party in the center of Digbeth.
