He was born in Punjab, India and has been interested in singing since childhood. He sings in Folk and Bhangra genres usually. In 2009, he won “Best International Album” at the UK Asian Music Awards for Boot Polishan.

Before starting his singing career, he worked for the electricity board but was approached by a producer in 1980 to perform the song “Dil Da Mamla Hai” in DD National - the national broadcasting channel in India. He shot to fame with it, and has not looked back since.

Apart from working in Bollywood, he works in other regional film industries in India as well having sung in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Haryanvi and Rajasthani.

His highly anticipated tour titled Akhiyan Udeek Diyan (“My eyes are longing for you”) will be coming to Birmingham in May 2023. Maan has not performed in the country since 2019, culminating in a mutual yearning for both fans and Maan alike - just as the title of the tour suggests.

The tour was originally planned for 2021 but had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic; a four-show tour was then pencilled in for November 2022. However, due to extraordinary public demand, UK Box Office had no alternative but to reschedule and add a further three shows, resulting in the forthcoming seven-show spectacular this May including a date in Birmingham.

Having recently released his new motivational track Chinta Na Kar Yaar(“Worry not, my friend”)Gurdas Maan is planning the release of a further two tracks ahead of his UK Tour - both penned to be powerful dance tracks.

He will be performing at the Utilita Arena Birmingham on May 20, 2023. Tickets for Gurdas Maan at Utilita Arena Birmingham are on-sale to general public Friday 20th March. Pre-sale begins on 11am on March 9, 2023.
