Birmingham Pride is set to return this weekend to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community for its 26th year. Birmingham city centre will be transformed for live performances from huge names and dance acts to celebrate the weekend.

The Sugarbabes will headline on Saturday May 27 with Cat Burns and Samantha Mumba among the other acts. On Sunday May 28 you can see Gabrielle, B*witched and Atomic Kitten among others.

It is thought the festival will attract around 40,000 people over the course of the weekend held in the heart of the LGBTQ+ village. Ahead of the event, we have rounded-up everything you need to know about the weekend.

Birmingham Pride 2023 - when it is

Birmingham Pride Festival will take place on May 27 and 28 from 2pm until midnight on both days. The event will take place in Birmingham’s LGBTQ+ village centered on buzzing Hurst Street,

Do I need tickets

To gain access to the festival and stages you will need to buy tickets via the Birmingham Pride website. Tickets cost from £44 per day or £66 for the weekend. Under 12’s and over 65s can enter for free but they still need to book a ticket online.

The Big Free Community Event is also taking place May 26 which is free to enter. The event will take place at Smithfield site (the main pride site) and will include a Candlelit Vigil, Keynote Speakers, Secret Symphony presents DIVA, Performances, Live Music, Community Stalls, Food Stalls, LGBTQ+ talent. Tickets can be booked via the Pride website.

And if you don’t have a ticket you will still be able to enjoy the Carnival Parade completely free of charge on Saturday.

Who will perform

The event is split across two locations - Smithfield Live and Street Party and each location has several stages. Huge stars including Eurovision contestant Mae Mulle, the Sugababes and Atomic Kitten will perform over the weekend. Here is the line-up and full list of set times.

Birmingham Pride Parade info

The Birmingham Pride parade will start at Centenary Square at 11am (May 27) and make its way to the Gay Village for the main festival activities at 12 noon.

The 2023 Pride Parade will leave from Centenary Square, march along New Street, then up High Street, before turning onto Carrs Lane. It then follows St Martins Queensway (which becomes Small Brook Queensway) to Hurst Street where it will end near the entrance to the LGBTIQ Village Street Party.

It is approximately 1.5 miles long, and takes about 45mins from start to finish given the slow moving nature of the parade, which will have a lot of stops and starts.

From start to end the parade has a strong street party aspect. You can expect hundreds of people at the gathering point and, as such, noise, music from the floats, and excited, joyful crowds of marchers.

How to get to Birmingham Pride

Car Parks

The Arcadian car park is the recommended car park for Pride goers and often does deals for those with Pride tickets.It has 11 disabled spaces on the ground floor. The Mailbox car park is situated close to Victoria Square, within walking distance of the Gay Village and has 16 disabled spaces. The normal tariff applies to Blue Badge users in both of these car parks.

The Town Hall car park is close to Centenary square and within walking distance of the Gay village. It has six disabled spaces and is free for blue badge users.

Be aware that Birmingham City Centre now operates a clean air zone so certain high emission vehicles may be subject to an £8 charge. Vehicles with a disabled tax class are exempt.

Bus Routes

Birmingham City Centre is served by numerous buses coming in from all over the West Midlands. Centenary Square is easiest to reach via the following bus services; 9, 23, 24, 61, 63, 126, 822, 829, x10,

The Pride Sites are easiest to access via the following bus services; 16 & 16A, 17, 25, 34, 35, 45, 47, 50, 61, 63, 80A, 144, 150, X1 and X2.

Each bus has ramp access and priority seating. Mobility scooter users require a pass to ride. Ring and Ride The Birmingham Ring and Ride service operates Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.30pm and Saturday between 8.30am and 3.30pm. There is no Sunday service. You can register for the service online.

Train Stops

The Parade and Pride Sites can all be accessed via Birmingham New Street, Birmingham’s central Train Station. The Pride Sites are also accessible from Birmingham Moor Street Station and Centenary Square can be accessed via Birmingham Snow Hill.

Moor street is approximately 15 minutes walk away, Snow Hill 20 minutes walk. Most sites are 10 minutes from Birmingham New Street and the ground is generally fairly level in most directions from New Street.

Tram Stops

The Town Hall and Grand Central stops are closest to Centenary Square where the Parade Starts this year. Grand Central is also the closest to the Pride Site at an approximately 10 minute walk.

Each Tram has two disabled priority bays. Mobility scooter users require a pass to ride. RNIB Key Fobs. Public Transport users with visual impairments can request an RNIB key fob which gives them real time audio information of their location via a phone app. The fobs are enabled on the majority of public transport in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Pride at Night

Birmingham Pride will run into the night for those over 18. After 10pm on both Saturday and Sunday, only visitors who are over 18 will be permitted entry. Anyone who’s under 18 is welcome to stay on the site after 10pm – but if they leave the site they will not be able to gain entry after 10pm.

Wristbands will be required for access throughout the night. A Pride at Night Wristband is available to purchase at the entry gates after 10pm
