Duran Duran announces 2023 Future Past tour: 13 photos of the Birmingham band from 1983 to 2022
We took at look at the successful Brummie group, who have two GRAMMY awards under their belt, through the years
Duran Duran is one of the few 1980s bands that have remained popular through the decades. The band was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 - almost four decades after they came together in Birmingham. Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor attended the ceremony where they were honoured for their contribution to music in the last four decades.
They shared some sad news at the ceremony about a member of the band. Andy Taylor’s message was read out and in that he revealed that he is fighting incurable cancer.
“Recently I was doing okay after some very sophisticated life extending treatment, that was until a week or so ago when I suffered a setback, and despite the exceptional efforts of my team, I had to be honest in that both physically and mentally, I would be pushing my boundaries,” he said.
Since then, they announced a new tour for 2023 called Future Past and will be performing in Birmingham on May 5, 2023 in Utilita Arena. They have picked up many awards over the years and performed in numerous countries.
The group has won two GRAMMY awards. They won Best Video, Short Form for Girls On Film/Hungry Like The Wolf and Best Video Album in 1984 at the 26th GRAMMY Awards. They beat the likes of The Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper, and Olivia Newton-John in the Music Film category.
They have had many charttoppers through their career such as Hungry Like the Wolf, Ordinary World, Rio, The Reflex and more. With 15 studio albums, four live albums, 14 music videos, and 46 singles - the group has been prolific in their work and are still crowd-pullers.
