The show is a journey through Disney stories, led by Mickey Mouse and his friends, who are on a quest to discover their favourite memory of all time. Along the way, they encounter beloved characters from treasured tales, such as Moana, Anna and Elsa, Dory and Nemo, and Buzz Lightyear and Woody.

Although I didn’t get to see the entire show, I did get to see several of the performances. As the music started and the cast came on to the ice, I felt as if I had entered a Disney film. I was impressed by the agility and energy of the skaters who skated with such such ease. I had the chance to meet one of the performers, Alejandro Garcia who plays Buzz Lightyear in the show.

He told me that he has been skating since he was nine years old, and that he loves being part of Disney On Ice. “I get to portray the role of Buzz Lightyear. So I get to skate with my friends, Woody and Jessie from the toy box” he said. Alejandro also shared his excitement about bringing Disney magic to millions of families around the world.

“We have all your favourite Disney characters here in town. From Mickey, Minnie Donald, Goofy, to Moana to Elsa from Frozen on an Olaf lift, which is a kid’s favourite” he said.

He added; “I feel very blessed to be sharing all this Disney magic to millions and millions of families around the world.”

Many of the talented Disney On Ice cast, including Shay Jackson, have been skating since they were two years old, driven by a passion to “inspire children” and “put a big smile on everyone’s faces”.

Stars like Shay rehearse for more than 550 hours to perfect each performance and encapsulate the characters, while a team of choreographers and set and costume designers create approximately 181 props and 250 different costumes.
