Grammy and Emmy Award winning comedian, actor, director, writer and producer, Chris Rock is coming to the UK with his ‘Ego Death World Tour 2022’.

This will be the stand up comedian’s first UK tour in five years.

The global tour will also take him to Manchester and London in the UK.

Here’s all you need to know ahead of the Birmingham gig.

When is Chris Rock playing in Birmingham?

The date in Birmingham is one of four UK dates Christ Rock is playing on his ‘Ego Death World Tour 2022’.

The comedian will perform at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham on Friday, 13 May.

It is expected that the show will get underway at around 8pm.

The gig is the first of the four UK tour, and all shows will take place on consecutive days in May.

This is the full list of Chris Rock’s UK tour dates:

  • Thursday, 12 May - London, Royal Albert Hall
  • Friday, 13 May - Birmingham, Utilita Arena
  • Saturday, 14 May - Leeds, First Direct Arena
  • Sunday, 15 May - Manchester, AO Arena

How do I get tickets to the Birmingham gig?

Tickets for the show went on sale on 18 March, and are still available through The Ticket Factory website, and multiple price brackets have been confirmed.

The tickets for the gig are priced at £35.90,  £44.40 and £55.70 with the most expensive being listed as £109.40.

VIP hospitality tickets are available for £155.

Who is Chris Rock?

Born in South Carolina in 1965, Chris Rock is a stand-up comedian, actor and filmmaker who has been working for almost four decades.

He made his breakthrough as a cast member of ‘Saturday Night Live’ in 1991. Following on from this, he was cast in several films during the 2000s, including The Longest Yard (2005), Grown Ups (2010) and as a voice actor in the animated film series Madagascar (2005-2012).

In the UK, Rock has been named in the Channel 4 100 Greatest Stand-up’s on two occasions, coming in at number nine in 2007 and number eight in 2010 when the list was updated.

Chris Rock has six stand up specials that have been released on either HBO or Netflix.

These are:

  • Chris Rock: Bring the Pain (released on HBO, 1996)
  • Chris Rock: Bigger & Blacker (released on HBO, 1999)

  • Chris Rock: Tamborine (released on Netflix 2018)

Rock has hosted the Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars) on two separate occasions, first in 2005 and then again in 2016.

He also hosted a portion of the 2022 Academy Awards, during which he was hit by Will Smith following a joke at the expense of Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia.

Rock compared Jada Smith’s shaved head to that of Demi Moore’s in the 1997 film ‘G.I Jane’.

Rock refused to press charges against Will Smith with the Los Angeles Police Department following the ceremony.
