Where to watch the Commonwealth Games 2022 on big screens in Birmingham

Victoria Square and Smithfield have two big screens to stream the games but there are many more locations spread out through West Midlands.

Sites across Birmingham will have the big screens where you can watch the Commonwealth Games 2022 action between July 27 and August 8.

Victoria Square and Smithfield have been transformed for the next 11 days so that people can drop in whenever they want to watch the televised competitions and join in the fun - including big screens. And they are just two places where you can watch the sports with others.

Locations in Birmingham City where you can watch the games on the big screen are:

1. Victoria Square

If you want to take part in the opening and closing ceremony celebrations as well as watch the sporting action, you will have to visit the Victoria Square Festival site. There’s going to be a lot more action, music, dance, food and fun here every day for the next 11 days.

2. Smithfield

This festival site will have a live feed of performances taking place across the site, and live coverage of the sporting action taking place from across the Games. The three-sided screen and stage structure will keep you hooked throughout the day.

3. King Kong Park in Jewellery Quarter

The park has a large replica of the famed King Kong statue from the 1970s that used to be in Birmingham. There are also dining options available. The closest tram stop is St.Paul’s and then it’s a short walk to the temporary park.

4. Martineu Place Shopping Centre

Located on Corporation Street, this shopping centre has a bunch of food and drink options as well. You can watch the swimming, hockey, boxing, women’s gymnastics, basketball, athletics, men’s weight-lifting, para power-lifting, wrestling, netball, and diving there.

Seven neighbourhood festival sites out of town

1. Castle Vale

You can catch the opening ceremony at a big screen at the Castle Vale site in Farnborough Fields on 28 and 29 July. The site will also offer many more activities like a silent disco. You can also watch some live performances at the venue.

2. Selly Oak

On 29 and 30 July, the Relaxed Festival Site at TouchBase Pears will host a unique and inclusive experience so that everyone, whether they are able-bodied or not, can enjoy the festive atmosphere. You can also watch the screening of the sporting events here on a big screen.

3. Sparkhill

On 30 and 31 July, Sparkhill Park, Stratford Rd, will connect people from different countries bringing together the rich and multicultural tapestry of Birmingham. Apart from various performances, food, and activities, you can also watch the Commonwealth Games here.

4. Edgbaston

On 1 and 2 August, you can watch the screening of major sporting moments from the Commonwealth Games at the Edgbaston Reservoir. People will also be able to try out some water sports at this site while listening to local artists.

5. Yardley

On 3 and 4 August, Oaklands Recreation Ground will welcome the community of Yardley to explore and play together. You can participate in a range of classes and activities, rock climbing and skateboardin. You can also watch the games at a big screen here.

6. Handsworth

On 5 and 6 August, the beautiful award-winning Handsworth Park will offer creative sessions and wellbeing workshops. You can also watch a livestream of the games here and watch some live performances too.

7. Ward End

On 7 and 8 August, Ward End Park will champion multiculturalism as the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games come to a close. The site will bring together community and sport through various workshops and performances. You can also watch the final day of events here.

Outside Birmingham in Solihull, Sandwell and across the West Midlands

If you’re further afield than Birmingham, there will be screenings also in Solihull, Coventry, Tamworth, Telford, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Sandwell, Dudley and Wolverhampton.

At each of the festival sites sports workshops and activities will be conducted. These will feature ctivities that link to the Birmingham 2022 programme such as volleyball, judo, squash, athletics, table tennis, swimming, hockey, gymnastics, triathlon and cricket.
