Commonwealth Games 2022: who is playing at the closing ceremony in Birmingham, can I get tickets?

The Commonwealth Games in Birmingham have been a great spectacle of sport with athletes from across the world competing against each other.

There may still be plenty of sport left to watch, but the exciting conclusion of the games is coming up fast.

Here’s all you need to know about the closing ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, including what we can expect to see and how you can get one of the final batch of tickets to attend the ceremony in person.

When is the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony?

The closing ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games takes place on Monday, 8 August.

Like with the opening of the games, the closing ceremony will be held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

It will begin at 8pm and finish at around 10pm.

What can we expect from the closing ceremony?

The closing ceremony, at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, will see performances from local music stars including Jorja Smith, Beverley Knight, UB40, Apache Indian, Dexys Midnight Runners, Goldie, Jacob Banks and Jaykae.

Laura Mvula, Ash, Mahalia and Musical Youth will also be performing, along with Neelam Gill, Panjabi MC, Talulah-Eve and The Selecter.

In a tribute to one of Birmingham’s major exports of the past decade, the closing ceremony will feature a sequence from the much-anticipated theatre show Peaky Blinders: The Redemption Of Thomas Shelby. British singer Mvula will give a special performance of a newly commissioned track inspired by Nick Cave’s Red Right Hand, the TV series’ theme song.

Written and adapted for the stage by the show’s creator Steven Knight, the theatre production will receive its world premiere at Birmingham Hippodrome on September 27 as part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival.

The closing ceremony will also include a formal handover to the state of Victoria, Australia, which is hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Can I get tickets for the closing ceremony?

The games organisers released further tickets for the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony last week. To check availability go to the official website.

Can I watch the closing ceremony on TV?

If you are unable to get a ticket to the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, then have no fear.

Like with the games itself, the closing ceremony will be shown live on BBC and BBC HD.

You will also be able to stream the ceremony live on BBC IPlayer.

What sports take place on the final day?

The closing ceremony takes place at the very end of the last day of the Commonwealth Games.

However, there are plenty of sports scheduled to take place in the hours before the closing ceremony.

Badminton, Hockey, Table Tennis, Para table Tennis, Squash, and Diving will all be completed on 8 August

All of these are medal events, with medal ceremonies taking place after each.
