Commonwealth Games 2022: how to get to each of the venues - including public transport and park and ride

The 2022 Commonwealth Games will see thousands of sports fans descend on the West Midlands to take in a wide range of sports.

The region has a wide range of public transport links for people to use, and these will be well used over the course of the games.

If you are planning on visiting the games, here’s some information in regards to how to get to each of the venues in the region.

When is the Commonwealth Games 2022?

The Commonwealth Games 2022 get underway with the Opening Ceremony which takes place on Thursday, 28 July.

Which venues are hosting the Commonwealth Games 2022?

15 venues across the West Midlands will be playing host to the games, with the majority being located in Birmingham but others will be in Coventry and elsewhere in the region.

Below is the full list of locations at which the Commonwealth Games will be taking place at.

How can I get to each venue?

Venues aroundthe region are accessible via various forms of transport, including trams and park and ride.

Three venues are accessible through Park and Ride. these are the Alexander Stadium, the Coventry Stadium, and the Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

Which venues can I get to via Voi?

The e-scooter service Voi have a 24/7 service which means riders can get to some of the major venues around the city at any time of the day.

To encourage more sustainable travel during the games, riders can hop on or off from the following micromobility hubs at the games’ venues and stations with convenience and ease:

  • Perry Hall Park hub, Alexander Stadium - park/ride to and from: Perry Barr station
  • Cannon Hill Park hub, Edgbaston Cricket Ground - park/ride to and from: University station
  • Rag Market hub, Smithfield - park/Ride to and from: Birmingham New Street, Birmingham Snow Hill, and Birmingham Moor Street stations
  • City Centre Gardens hub, the Arena Birmingham - park/ride to and from: Birmingham New Street, Birmingham Snow Hill, and Birmingham Moor Street stations
  • New Fosse Way hub, University of Birmingham - park/ride to and from: University station

Riders can download the Voi app on Google Play or Apple Apple Store.

Is there parking at the venues?

All venues can be accessed by walking or cycling, and all venues also have blue badge disabled parking available.

There will be no parking at or near any of the venues, other than a limited number of disabled parking spaces.

There are temporary road restrictions and no parking, pick-up or drop off facilities at venues except pre-booked blue badge parking.

Some venues have park and ride facilities where a shuttle bus will drop you at the venue, but these must be pre-booked in advance. There are also park and walk sites with designated walking routes to venues, these also must be pre-booked.
