The UK’s oldest working cinema, The Electric opened in Station Street in 1909, showing its first silent film on 27 December of that year.

After closing in 2020, it was announced in November last year that the cinema would reopen under new ownership, with Kevin Markwick taking over the reins.

His daughter Katie Marwick will manage the venue.
