Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight hints at further series of BBC Birmingham gang show

The writer and creator of hit Birmingham drama Peaky Blinders has hinted at further series of the show- but that it wouldn’t be by his hand.

Steven Knight told the BBC that the show would continue “if there was appetite” for more Peaky Blinders.

The world premier of the Peaky Blinders dance show, entitled ‘The Redemption of Thomas Shelby’ took place on September 27 at Birmingham Hippodrome.

Steven Knight has created this show, and was excited to see how the world of Peaky Blinders could be adapted.

The sixth series of the show ended last year with suggestions that it would be the last we’d see of Peaky Blinders on the small screen.

Yet this may not have been the case, as Steven suggested earlier this week.

How did Peaky Blinders series six end?

The final series of Peaky Blinders was packed with drama and tension, the likes of which we have come to expect in the show.

With the first whisperings of the Second World War, the sixth series takes us to 1930s Britain.

For half of the final series, Tommy Shelby had the prospect of death looming over him. Believing he was succumbing to tuberculoma, a type of tuberculous, he plans out his life accordingly and hands over power of the Shelby Company to his sister Ada.

Yet it turned out that the illness was plotted by Oswald Mosely, and the diagnosis was given to him by a doctor who was under the influence of Mosely.

Tommy rode off to make a new life for himself at the end of a series where so much had changed for the family and the wider ring of characters.

Is there a Peaky Blinders film on the way?

This is something we’ve known for a few months now, but Steven reaffirmed the fact that a Peaky Blinders film is in fact on the way and filming is due to start next year.

On the film, Steven told the BBC: “Yes I’m just completing that. We’re going to start shooting that early next year in Digbeth in Birmingham on location and in the studio.

“We should have that ready for Spring 2024.”

Will there be more Peaky Blinders TV shows?

Steven suggested that this is something which had been considered, but that it wouldn’t be him behind it

He said: “I think after the film we’ll look at (it won’t be me) it would be me launching new stories into the 50s and handing over the baton of writing and creating the thing to other people.

“If there is an appetite for the world then it will continue.”

Steven added that any new series would be looked at after the film and be handled by new people.
