The school summer holidays are on their way. Many families will have elaborate summer plans on foreign shores but there’s a lot going on in and around Birmingham before and after you had off - and if you’re staying put.
Instead of letting the cost of living crisis play a dampener on your summer plans, you can check out these free, family-friendly events taking place across the city.
From hands-on workshops at the University of Birmingham to beaches in Birmingham and Solihull - there are many fun things to do. And, don’t forget the massive 10 day Birmingham Festival, which starts on July 28 at Centenary Square to celebrate the anniversary of Commonwealth Games which brought millions to our city last year.
Birmingham city centre will come alive with dance, music, and more - keeping us well and truly entertained us during the event which finishes with a grand finale on August 6. There is so much more taking place in Birmingham where you will have to get your hands dirty and create amazing things at these free events. 9. The Barber Institue of Fine Arts, University of Birmingham
During Barber Family Summer Festival 2023, everyone is invited to drop-in for free outdoor activities. It’s Scrap Sculpture Garden on Tuesday 1 & 2 Wednesday August from 11am – 3pm, Colour Box: Down to Earth with Flatpack on Thursday 3 August from 11am – 3pm, Tremendous Textiles with Ruth Turnbull on Friday 4 August from 11am-3pm, Insect Planet with Cloud Cuckoo Land Theatre on Saturday 5 August, 11am - 3pm; Printing Natural Forms on Sunday 6 August, 11am – 3pm, Creepy Crawlies Construction with Woodland Tribe on Wednesday 9 – Friday 11 August, 10.30am – 1pm, 2 – 4.30pm. 10. Soho House, Birmingham
On Saturday, August 12, experience the magic of dance during South Asian Heritage Month by joining artist Shreya Vadnerkar from Akademi for an exciting and welcoming dance workshop. 11. Activities in Sandwell Valley
Adventure playground in Sandwell Valley Country Park includes climbing nets, a rope bridge, an eight metre high tower with a slide, swings, a dragon roundabout, a suspension bridge, a play tractor and trailer and timber sculptures - plus a picnic area and sandpit. 12. Escape Live
Escape Live is offering one child the opportunity become the business’s first Chief Escape Officer (CEO) and celebrate summer in style, with free entry to all of its six escape room attractions in Birmingham, Chelmsford, Liverpool, Coventry, Southend and Stratford-upon-Avon.
