Birmingham restaurants: Pushkar celebrates third British Curry Awards with dazzling party

Much loved independent Indian restaurant on Broad Street has been a favourite of the Birmingham dining scene for over 12 years

Classy cocktails, organic fizz and decadent interiors showcased the splendour of one of Britain’s best Indian restaurants like never before.

With a fantastic attention to detail and welcoming fun vibes it’s no wonder that Pushkar Dining has remained such a popular feature of the city’s dining scene.

The Covid pandemic has hit hospitality hard and lockdown restrictions meant founder Rai Singh didn’t get to mark the restaurant’s 10th birthday.

But he more than made up for it with a dazzling party to celebrate their third win at the British Curry Awards - named the best Indian Restaurant in the West Midlands.

As well as inviting media and bloggers, including BirminghamWorld, Rai and the team also raised funds for local charity LoveBrum, which helps grassroots organisations across the city.

The evening was organised with hospitality experts Delicious PR.

Pushkar is renowned for its innovative Indian cooking with quality ingredients and pungent spices.

A selection of their excellent dishes includes Portabello Mushroom Ki Galati, Salmon Dil, Chicken Kalimirch with a Fenugreek Sauce served with Saffron Rice, Butter Naan and Subz Punchmel.

The restaurant offers a selection of wine recommendations and worked with Hallgarten Wines for this event.

Rai said: “So we’ve certainly had a journey and a half. Pushkar means flower. And that flower is a lotus, and it landed in a place called Pushkar. It’s still in India and it’s a sacred city.

“It’s been a roller coaster, and we’re coming out of Covid. Birmingham has got a thriving dining scene. But what makes independents different to the celebrity endorsed, and the chains, is that we have a soul. There’s a personality behind an independent restaurant.

“And that’s why, when you do things with a passion, you will always succeed.”
