After celebrating the Commonwealth Games 2022, Birmingham is now ready for two amazing weeks of cricket and entertainment as The Hundred comes to town.

The Hundred is a sports competition that fuses blockbuster entertainment with world-class cricket, inviting everyone to fall in love with the game at its intense, electrifying, and incredible.

Combining a short, fast format of cricket, with each game lasting less than three hours, and incredible entertainment beyond sport, The Hundred is making cricket more accessible and reaching a broader audience. It’s simple: 100 balls per team, most runs wins, so every ball counts.

Headed up by Moeen Ali Birmingham Phoenix’s men’s team will be back in action at Edgbaston on 10 August as they take on reigning champions Southern Brave at 6:30PM for The Hundred, which started in July 2021. The cricket event will bring new festivities along with it.

Birmingham Phoenix women’s team, led by Sophie Devine, will be joining forces with the men’s fixtures from Monday 15 August. You can see the full listing of who is playing day by day below - with the last day being Sunday, August 28.

But, sports is not all that the event offers. The 18 days of thrilling cricket in Edgbaston can be enjoyed with friends and family. There is going to be music and entertainment to accompany the fast-paced cricket. So, gather your loved ones and head to the game. Details on how to get tickets and travel are also below.

Who will perform?

DJ 2NV, Birmingham Phoenix’s resident DJ, will provide entertainment at every Edgbaston fixture, with Leadley performing on Wednesday 10 August.

Birmingham-raised Kofi Stone will bring high energy entertainment on Monday 15 August.

West Midlands-based Big Image will perform on Friday 19 August and Jordan Mackampa is set to perform at the last home fixture on Sunday 28 August.

How to get to Edgbaston Stadium?

The stadium is south of the Birmingham city centre. National Express buses 45 and 47 serve Pershore Road, which is a short walk from the stadium. You can also cycle there or walk there to stay active. The quickest route is via Sherlock Street and the A441.

Blue badge holders can book limited spaces in the stadium car park by calling 0121 446 3505. These spaces are sold on a first-come-first-served basis.

Birmingham New Street is the major rail hub. On major match days, you can catch a special shuttle bus service to the ground at a small cost. At Birmingham New Street, Cricketeers will be there to direct you to the shuttle bus pick-up points outside.

The 2022 season of The Hundred started on 3 August and will go on until 3 September.

Who are the key players?

Birmingham Phoenix’s men’s team will be captained by Moeen Ali and the women’s team by Sophie Devine. Both are all-rounders.

Ali also plays for the Indian Premier League and has been in top form throughout the season.

Liam Livingstone had a great season as the opener for Perth Scorchers in Big Bash League and is one to watch out for.

Will Smeed, 20, is a fast scorer as he hits it big. He is a young talent to watch out for.

Women’s team

Emily Arlott, 24, is a bowler and scored the winning runs as Phoenix beat Rockets.

Amy Jones scored 83 runs in her Women’s Cricket World Cup debut at the age of 19 and has become a great opener and a brilliant keeper.

Sophie Devine is the skipper this season. She is a seasoned cricketer and has over 100 international T20 appearances, scoring more than 2500 runs.

Where to watch if you can’t make it to Edgbaston

The Phoenix will be broadcast live on Sky Sports and BBC.

The Hundred currently has eight teams from seven cities, with men’s and women’s competitions taking place side by side: Welsh Fire (Cardiff), Southern Brave (Southampton), Northern Superchargers (Leeds), London Spirit, Trent Rockets (Nottingham), Oval Invincibles (London), Manchester Originals and Birmingham Phoenix.
