Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market is just around the corner as the festive season fast approaches, and details including the start date have been announced.

The largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria, Birmingham’s annual celebration plays a major role in the city’s festivities.

From traditional gifts to bratwurst sausages and mulled wine, there’s something for everyone and it’s a brilliant way to get in the Christmas spirit with family and friends.

Without further ado, here’s everything you need to know ahead of the Christmas market in Birmingham, including when it starts, whether you need a ticket for entry, and all the venue details for Victoria Square and New Street.

When does the Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market start?

Grab your coats, gloves and scarves because Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market isn’t far away.

It starts on Thursday 3 November 2022 at 10am and finishes two days before Christmas – on Friday 23 December 2022, at 9pm.

It will be open daily from 10am to 9pm, except Remembrance Sunday on 13 November. On that day, the market will instead open at 1pm and close at 9pm.

Good news – you won’t need a ticket to enter the market, but you will need some ID if you want to purchase alcohol at the event.

Acceptable forms of ID are deemed to be either a photographic driving licence or a passport.

What Covid precautions will be in place?

Prioritising the safety of visitors, stallholders and other members of staff, there will be some Covid-19 precautions in place at this year’s market.

There will be a slight reduction in the number of stalls in order to create more space, and hand sanitising facilities will be available throughout the venues.

Event information may change closer to the time regarding Covid-19 restrictions, so it is advised visitors check for up-to-date details via the BFCM website before arrival.

Victoria Square and New Street venue details

The 2022 Christmas market will take place around Birmingham’s Victoria Square and New Street, located in the city centre.

Live music will be played and the majority of the traditional gifts including wooden decorations and glass baubles will be available at Victoria Square.

As is the nature of a Christmas market, food and drink will be dotted around just about everywhere, with some stalls at New Street and some at Victoria Square.

There will also be an ornate carousel, and nearby – although you will need to book tickets for these – the annual big wheel and ice rink activities will be available.

Where to park your car for the Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market

There are a whole host of nearby car parking spots that will come in handy when heading to the Christmas market this Winter.

The closest is the NCP car park based at New Street, and this is conveniently just a couple of minutes away from the entrance to the market.
