One of the large faith communities in Birmingham will be celebrating a major festival this weekend. Eid ul Fitr will be celebrated on April 21 and 22 - depending on the moon sighting.

Eid ul Fitr or the festival of sweets involves family gatherings, exchanging gifts, and the coming together of the community for a wonderful time together.

The day begins with morning prayers and is followed by a big meal. People will visit friends and family, during which men will hug other men as a sign of friendship while women will hug other women.

While praying together is one of the major traditions, there is a lot more to Eid al Fitr than that. There will be several events in Birmingham post Eid to have a family-friendly time together.

Here are six events in and around Birmingham to attend:

1. Eid Mehfil - Qawali Night - April 29

UK’s Leading Qawwal Group will be performing at this Qawali night. Qawali is a musical performance of Sufi Muslim poetry and is popular in South Asia.
