The festival of lights Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains and it is just around the corner. It’s a five-day festival with the main celebration falling on November 12, 2023.
It’s a festive period for South Asians and it’s a great time to get your ethnic clothes out and gear up for dance parties, family gatherings, and partake on tasty food.
For South Asian people, Diwali symbolises the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”. Here are seven Diwali events taking place in and around Birmingham over the next few weeks:

5. Celebrating Diwali in Midlands: The Festival of Light & Happiness, Cornwall St, Jewellery Quarter
This November, at the Beazley office in Birmingham, people are invited to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, in a special event where you can immerse yourself in its diverse traditions and educational significance. 6. Diwali Dinner & Dance 2023, Smethwick
Kundan Gems presents Diwali Dinner & Dance on Saturday 11 November 2023 at The Opel Suite, 17, Tollgate Shopping Centre, Smethwick from 6pm to 11pm with free onsite parking in the multi story car park. The event will include Live Performances, Dinner, Dance and Exhibition. Coverage will be broadcast to a mass audience via popular Asian satellite channels and online media. 7. Bengali Association Midlands, Winson Green
