One of the city’s most popular attractions - a firm family favourite - is the brilliant big wheel and under cover ice rink in Centenary Square which runs alongside the German Christmas Market in Victoria Square.

Ice Skate Birmingham is proud to offer the ultimate ice skating experience for all ages in the beautiful city centre surroundings - and this year it has its own Ice lounge and bar, to make even more of your visit. You can also enjoy some panoramic views of Brum on the big wheel.

The Commonwealth Games Brummie Bull may not be present in that particular location to watch over your fun, but there is plenty going on in the Square. Here’s some more details to help you plan your visit.

When does the ice rink and big wheel open & how long will it be in Centenary Square?

Get your hats and gloves ready and put your best foot forward because the dates have been announced for the Christmas ice rink and big wheel in Centenary Square.

You can join the festivities from November 3, which is the same date that the German Market opens. But unlike the Victoria Square spectacle, you’ll be able to enjoy ice skating and trips on the big wheel right through the New year until January 8. The attraction will be open each day between 10am and 10pm, except on Christmas Day.

Visitors are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to their skate session to ensure they have enough time to get their skates on.

Tickets are available both online and at the Ice Skate Birmingham box-office which is open from 9:30am – 9pm. However, visitors are advised to purchase tickets in advance online, if they can, to avoid disappointment.

Skate hire is included in the ticket price. Please note Ice Skate Birming requires all skaters to wear socks. They provide lockers to hire for £1 in the skate hire hall to keep skaters personal belongings safe while they are on the ice.
