Now it’s coming to Cathedral Square - aka Pigeon Park - to give a sunny ride as high as Selfridges in spacious gondolas with captivating commentary on Brummie history from the city’s top expert, Carl Chinn.

When is the Cathedral Square Big Wheel opening in Birmingham for summer 2024?

From May Bank Holiday weekend (May 24) until September 1, locals and tourists will be able to enjoy a birds eye view of the city centre on the wheel - maybe even higher than the local pigeons!

The Cathedral Square Big Wheel, in Pigeon Park next to Colmore Row, is a staggering 35 metres high, which is the height of Selfridges. It’s gondolas are big enough for six people, ensuring comfort as you head up into the sky, with historic commentary from Birmingham historian Carl Chinn offering depth and insight to your Brummie aerial adventure.

The wheel will be available for rides from 11am to 10pm each day - and dogs are welcome, with special rates for children and anyone over 65.

A bit more about Birmingham Cathedral

Birmingham Cathedral is the oldest building in the city centre still used for its original purpose. The cathedral is free to visit, and all are welcome to attend services, light a candle, and explore the church’s history. Birmingham Cathedral is a Church of the Anglican Communion and seat of the Bishop of Birmingham - holding daily services, including those sung by it’s choir of choristers and professional musicians.

The building is home to four beautiful stained-glass windows designed by Pre-Raphaelite artist Edward Burne-Jones. These were fully conserved in 2023, thanks to National Lottery Players, via a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and other donors.

Birmingham Cathedral also hosts a range of concerts and events - offering a unique venue available for hire.
