Vegan food is getting more and more popular - here are a few places to try out some great dishes in Birmingham

We’re all becoming more aware of how important it is to do our bit to help combat climate change.

And reducing meat in our diet is a key way many of us can help to cut those carbon emissions as plant-based food produces less greenhouse emissions.

As well as being beneficial for your health and the environment, vegan food has come a long way, with many restaurants and cafes adapting popular meat and dairy dishes, transforming them into a meal made from plants.

Whether you’re swapping to a plant-based diet for one day only, a few days a week, or a permanent lifestyle choice, there are plenty of fantastic restaurants across Birmingham, from fine dining spots to cosy cafes.

Here are a few of our favourite spots.

Known for bringing some of the very best plant-based food to the city, you’ll find award-winning independent, BA-HA in the recently re-opened The Rainbow Pub in Digbeth.

It only takes a quick scroll of BA-HA’s Instagram to see that this restaurant cooks up some seriously mouth-watering vegan and vegetarian options.

From meat-free burgers to vegan-friendly mac n cheese, there are plenty of delicious options on the menu that even meat-lovers would enjoy every bite of.

BA-HA also serves up a tremendous vegan Sunday roast every week up until 8pm, complete with all of the trimmings. Keep up to date with BA-HA here

Plant & Pulse

Tucked away in Minories Shopping, just off Bull Street, Plant & Pulse creates healthy and fresh vegan food that celebrates local products as well as seasonal ingredients.

A perfect place to swing by if you’re looking to grab lunch in a hurry, the wonderful team at Plant & Pulse offers a great selection of wraps, burgers and buddha bowls, all of which are as good for your gut as they are for the environment.

As well as their spot in the Minories, Plant & Pulse also has a pop-up at The Anchor in Digbeth every Friday and Saturday from 5pm until 9pm. Find out the latest here

The Vegan Kitchen

If you’re looking for somewhere in the city centre to get your vegan food fix, then The Vegan Kitchen has a new site in Great Western Arcade.

This trendy street food restaurant headed up by Dan Carter, serves up seriously tasty vegan food, which also happens to be both gluten and soya free.

Creating beautiful vegan food that’s absolutely bursting with flavour, The Vegan Kitchen is your go-to place if you’re looking for a plant-based version of junk food.

Home to the legendary FunGuys burger, the menu features a range of vegan dishes from dirty fries to homemade puds, all of which can be enjoyed in their super-stylish restaurant.

Land Restaurant

If fine dining with a twist is what you’re after, then look no further than Land Restaurant, located just a few doors down from The Vegan Kitchen.

Elevating vegetarian and vegan food, Land showcases tasty seasonal ingredients through a four or six-course tasting menu.

Located in Great Western Arcade, Land first opened in 2019 with a strong focus on plant-based dishes. Much like Plant & Pulse, it celebrates seasonal ingredients through its decadent meals.

The Warehouse Cafe

As one of Birmingham’s oldest vegan dining spots, The Warehouse Cafe has been dishing up delicious grub in the city for more than 30 years.

Its vegetarian and vegan menu has a great selection of plant-based alternatives, from burgers to kebabs, vegan cakes.

Alongside its delicious food, The Warehouse also stocks vegetarian wines, vegan beers and soft drinks, which the cafe aims to source from as many from local, ethical and organic companies.

And, if you’re hosting an event, The Warehouse also provides vegan catering, which can be collected directly from the cafe for you to enjoy, whatever the occasion.

Cherry Reds Birmingham

Cherry Reds

An incredibly popular spot in the city centre, Cherry Reds has some really fantastic vegan options on its menu.

Located on John Bright Street, just a short stroll from Birmingham New Street, there’s plenty to feast your eyes on when it comes to vegan and vegetarian options at this cosy cafe bar.

You can find everything from a hearty vegan breakfast, complete with ‘buttered’ toast, to vegan ‘fish’ and chips, Biscoff Pancakes and a tempting selection of side dishes.

3 Three’s Coffee Lounge

With a sole focus on vegan food, 3 Three’s Coffee Lounge has a fantastic menu, which options available to both eat in and takeaway.

The perfect place for a spot of lunch, the menu has options including bagels, wraps, paninis, cakes and plenty more, all of which can be washed down with a delicious coffee made with soya, coconut, oat or almond milk.

3 Three’s has two successful cafes in Birmingham, one located in Martineau Place, the other on Great Hampton Street in the Jewellery Quarter.
