The much-loved German market returns to Birmingham for the first time since 2019 after last year’s event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic and it’s celebrating its 21st birthday
Excitement is building with Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market set to return to the city this winter.
The popular event was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, but will return to Victoria Square and New Street for the 19th time on November 4 until December 23.
The market is a firm fixture in the city’s annual calendar and a massive favourite with both residents and visitors to the city from across the UK and Europe.
Birmingham has changed dramatically since the market first came to town in 2001 with a lot more sky scrapers and more developments springing up across its skyline. It would have been celebrating the 20th event this year, but it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.
The West Midlands event is the largest authentic German market outside of Germany or Austria; offering a large range of traditional goods and gifts and a selection of tempting food and drink.
The Birmingham German Market is also known as Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market, with the city being twinned with the German city. Here are 19 photos from the event over the years to get you into the festive spirit.
