28 key Birmingham roads where speed limits are being cut from 40mph to 30mph right now

Work to change speed limits from 40mph to 30mph has started on these roads in Birmingham. Old road signs were removed in early September 2025.

Where roads cross into Sandwell or other neighbouring areas, the changes only apply to the sections within Birmingham.

Quinton Expressway and A38(M) Aston Expressway are not included. These roads are designed for high volumes of traffic and are classed as urban motorways, so reducing the speed limit on these roads is not practical.

The roads to change include:

A5127 Lichfield Road, Sutton Mere Green, From south of Bishops Way to the roundabout at Watford Gap Road (city boundary)
