Aston Church Road, a key commuter route near Star City, has closed for 14 months due to HS2 construction. The road is shut to motorists but open for pedestrians and cyclists.

A key commuting route, Aston Church Road in Birmingham, has closed to allow for HS2 construction work. The road shut to motorists on Saturday, October 5, 2024, and will remain closed for 14 months, reopening on December 1, 2025. Pedestrian and cyclist access will still be available during this time.

The closure is necessary to rebuild the Aston Church Road Overbridge, providing sufficient clearance for HS2 trains to pass underneath. A fully signed diversion route will be in place, with most traffic rerouted via Saltley Viaduct. Bus routes 14, 94, and 95 will continue to operate but may experience delays on certain services.

The closure, originally planned for March 25, 2024, to May 26, 2025, was postponed due to complications in relocating utilities along the road.
