Following the success of the Commonwealth Games in the summer, the UK’s best track and field athletes will now head to Birmingham this weekend for the 2023 UK Athletics Indoor Championships.

The action will take place on Saturday, February 18 and Sunday 19, with national titles and places on the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team all up for grabs ahead of the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Istanbul the following month (March).

The British Indoor Athletics Championships is the annual national championship in indoor track and field for the United Kingdom, organised by UK Athletics. Eight track and five field events for both men and women are contested, with athletes being invited to compete, after reaching qualifying standards.

Here’s what you need to know about the events this weekend.

Where is the Championships being held?

The event is taking place at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena this weekend.

The evnts will run between approximately 11.30am to 7pm on Saturday 18th February and between approximately 11.30am and 5pm on Sunday 19th February.

Event schedule

Saturday

On late Saturday morning and midday, the women and men’s 60m track events will be taking place, with the pole vault finals and 400m track heats taking place early in the afternoon.

The hurdles, triple jump and 60m and 800m track events will also be taking place on Saturday afternoon, with the 1500 track, 400m track and 60m hurdles taking place on Saturday evening.

Sunday

The long jump and high jump finals will be taking place on Sunday. The shot jump final and triple jump finals also taking place in early afternoon.

The finals of the women and men’s track 1500m, 200m, 800m, and 400m track events will also be taking place on Sunday afternoon.
