The wait is over!
After much speculation Aston Villa have announced that Steven Gerrard has been appointed their Head Coach.
The former Rangers boss was tipped for the job almost instantly after the news that Dean Smith had been sacked broke on Sunday.
He guided Rangers to their first league title in a decade last season and finished his three year stint at the club with a 64.77% win percentage.
But what do you think about the appointment?
BirminghamWorld visited the city centre to find out what local football fans think about the appointment.
Here’s a selection of comments, which you can hear in full in the video at the top of our story.
“I’m surprised he’s gone to Villa”
Tony said: “He’s proved himself, hasn’t he. A lot of players have gone into management and it hasn’t worked out, but he’s done well.
“But I was really, really surprised that he’s gone to Villa. I thought, maybe, he would’ve gone for something a bit higher up.
“It’s fantastic”
John said: “For Villa, it’s fantastic. He’s obviously got great experience. As a player he was outstanding, but as a manager, more recently at Rangers, he’s done a really good job.
“And I think, probably for him, it’s the next step up to high level management.”
“They could have got someone better”
Paris said: “I don’t think he’s good for them as a manager. I think they could’ve found somebody better.
“He wasn’t, in my opinion, good as a player either. So I don’t think he’s going to do as good for them as a manager.”
“I’m excited”
Tunde said: “I think it will be interesting to see how he performs in the Premier League as he’s pretty good with Rangers. I’m excited to see how he manages Aston Villa.”
“He hasn’t got enough experience, to be fair”
Brain said: “I don’t think he’s got enough experience, to be fair. I’m very surprised that Villa hasn’t approached Nuno due to him being sacked from Tottenham Hotspur. That’s me, from my Wolves fan point of view.”
