Hide AdJulen Lopetegui's departure on the eve of the campaign had pundits alike thinking that Wolves were destined for the drop but they've defied expectations. Gary O'Neil, brought to Molineux on the back of being sacked by Bournemouth despite keeping them up, has been spoken about as a potential Manager of the Year contender.
Many would have taken survival and Wolves have all but done that with 17 points between them and Luton Town. Fans were dreaming of Wembley but Coventry City dashed those dreams by beating them in dramatic fashion in mid-March before the international break.
Wolves is O'Neil's second job in senior management and some are even suggesting he could replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield when he departs Liverpool at the end of the season. O’Neil is under contract until the summer of 2026 but sporting director Matt Hobbs has already spoken about signing him to a new deal.

Hide AdO’Neil has the backing of the fan base but that doesn’t stop supporters and pundits from offering their opinions. They might think that a different formation might get them out of their bad run of form at the minute or perhaps there should be opportunities given to other players.
Thankfully, Football Manager offers those who want to take to the dugout the opportunity to manage a club. The ultimate aim of the game is to be as successful as you can be by choosing the right formation and tactics to defeat your opponent. It’s become so advanced however that you can play a huge role in transfers or leave it to your director of football or sporting director.
The board will expect you to keep within your transfer and wage budgets however. If you’re mid-season and performing above expectations then you can request more should the club be in a healthy financial position.
