Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Cristian Stellini has admitted star striker Harry Kane is not at full fitness as he has been struggling with illnesses of late, perhaps providing a boost to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The two sides face one another in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The result of the clash could have big implications at each end of the table, as Tottenham are fighting for a Champions League spot and Wolves are still battling away to survive relegation. Julen Lopetegui has made a brilliant impact since his arrival but Wanderers still are not free from the threat of the bottom three.

This weekend’s hosts suffered a big injury blow in their 2-0 defeat at Liverpool on Wednesday, with assured young left-back Hugo Bueno forced off the field holding his hamstring. The Spaniard has often rotated with Rayan Ait-Nouri this season but is probably Lopetegui’s favoured option at the left of a four.

It remains to be seen as to the extent of Bueno’s injury, but it is safe to say he will not feature at the weekend, even if it is a matter of caution. Meanwhile, winter signing Matheus Cunha was not in the squad to face Liverpool but a scan confirmed his ankle injury is not serious. He is a doubt for Saturday’s game.

Forward man Hwang Hee-chan won’t be available but his return won’t be too far away. “He is out and we will see when he’s back,” Lopetegui said on February 28. “He’s had a hamstring injury, so we will have to wait one or two weeks more.” The South Korean’s return date could be at home to Leeds United on March 18.

Meanwhile, long-term absentees Chiquinho and Sasa Kalajdzic are still recovering from their respective knee injuries. Malian midfielder Boubacar Traore has a “little problem” with his hip or groin and he will be assessed. Other than that, Wolves have escaped adding to their injury list further.

Ruled out: Bueno, Hwang, Chiquinho, Kalajdzic.

Doubts: Cunha, B. Traore.

As mentioned earlier in this article, Spurs have some concerns over the fitness levels of their top scorer. “Kane played in the last six games, one with fever, one time with a problem, we have to take care of our best player,” Stellini said after Kane was benched for Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United.

“He was ill one week ago and he didn’t train on some days because he was very ill. After he played a game with a fever he was very ill, so he didn’t. For that reason, we decided to keep him on the bench and maybe play a part of the match. A player like this also needs to work not only to play,” Stellini told football.london.

Kane is expected to start regardless of his issues, but whether he plays a full 90 minutes is another matter. In other team news, Spurs have four players who are certainly unavailable. Rodrigo Bentancur is out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury, Yves Bissouma has fractured his ankle, and Hugo Lloris is sidelined until April with a knee issue.

Wing-back Ryan Sessegnon is still recovering from a thigh problem, whereas the Englishman’s defensive counterpart Emerson Royal is a doubt with a knock to his knee. The Brazilian will be assessed ahead of the game, labeled as touch-and-go.

Ruled out: Bentancur, Bissouma, Lloris, Sessegnon.

Doubts: Emerson.
