Wolves vs Leeds injury news - as four confirmed out and three doubts for Carabao Cup clash

The latest injury and team news ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Leeds United in the Carabao Cup - including updates on Matheus Nunes, Toti Gomes, Luis Sinisterra and Patrick Bamford.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are back in action on Wednesday evening as they take on Leeds United in the Carabao Cup. Steve Davis’ side can progress to round four with a victory, perhaps shifting some attention away from the Wanderers’ Premier League woes.

It was another tough one to watch last time out as Wolves were defeated 3-2 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend. Davis’ men went 1-0 down early on but managed to get in the lead themselves, before Nelson Semedo was sent off.

Fighting on for much of the game with 10 men, Wolves were unable to shut out the high-flying Seagulls, who scored a late winner through German midfielder Pascal Gross. Wanderers are now three points deep in the relegation zone with just two wins in 14 matches.

Some promising news has emerged recently, though, with a new manager set to take to the Molineux dugout from Monday, November 14. Former Real Madrid head coach Julen Lopetegui will lead Wolves during the World Cup break and from then after.

Whether or not Lopetegui will have the Carabao Cup to balance with league fixtures remains to be seen but beating Leeds would certainly provide a nicer platform for the Spaniard coming in. Without further ado, here is the latest injury and team news ahead of the clash which will decide Lopetegui’s fate.

What is the injury and team news ahead of Wolves vs Leeds?

Davis will have to make do without Semedo, who is of course unavailable through suspension after his straight red card against Brighton. Fellow defender Toti Gomes, who is back in first team training, could perhaps feature but remains a doubt.

As is attacking midfielder Matheus Nunes, but the Portuguese is still suffering from pain in his shoulder and is 50/50 to play according to Davis. If he doesn’t start against Leeds, he will likely play a part in the league game against Arsenal on Saturday.

For Leeds, Colombian winger Luis Sinisterra (ankle) is ruled out until after the World Cup - as is Stuart Dallas, who is recovering from a hamstring injury. The game comes too soon for midfielder Adam Forshaw, who was sidelined following ankle surgery last month.

Meanwhile, key striker Patrick Bamford picked up an injury in training last week and remains a doubt ahead of the cup clash. Sam Greenwood and Rodrigo Moreno are among those in contention to replace him.
