Wolverhampton Wanderers are moving closer to signing one of Vitor Pereira’s main defensive transfer targets.

Wolves are advancing in talks to sign Reims centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou, according to a reputable report.

Transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that negotiations are well underway between the Old Gold and Reims. Agbadou has been one of the French Ligue 1 outfit’s star players over recent years, playing over 2,300 minutes in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.

The 27-year-old is both physical and quick, two qualities new Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has been keen to add to his back line. The serious injury suffered by Yerson Mosquera earlier in the season really left Wanderers in the lurch in that department - as regularly pointed out by previous boss Gary O’Neil - so signing Agbadou would come as a huge boost.

As per L’Equipe, the seven-time Ivory Coast international is expected to cost around €20 million (£16.5m) and discussions are advancing on personal terms. Kevin Danso, a defender for Lens, is another on Wolves’ shortlist but he’s behind Agbadou in the minds of those in the boardroom.

Wanderers progressing with the Agbadou deal could pave the way for Everton to sign Danso as the Toffees, along with Southampton, have been eyeing a move for the Austrian. Sean Dyche, just like Pereira at Molineux, wants to add quality in central defence.

Wolves could theoretically make a move for Danso too but the priority as it stands is to get the Agbadou deal over the line. This deal is certainly one to watch over the weekend before Wanderers take on Nottingham Forest at Molineux on Monday night.
