After a slow and disappointing start to the transfer window, Wolves fans were starting to write it off as another failed summer.

But just when you think it’s petering out into a long slog of a season, they go and pull Goncalo Guedes and Matheus Nunes out of the bag.

The two Portuguese players have come in from Valencia and Sporting Lisbon respectively and have instantly revitalised not only the fan base but the whole place around Molineux.

Nunes became the club’s record signing on Wednesday evening when the gold and black confirmed his signature for a fee that could rise to over £42million.

He and Guedes have made the potential starting eleven at Molineux look incredibly exciting and that’s even with the outgoing Morgan Gibbs-White who looks set to complete a move to Nottingham Forest imminently.

Bruno Lage still wants to add another striker to his squad due to the injury of Raul Jimenez but as things stand, the squad still looks bloody good on paper.

With Jimenez fit, here’s the stongest possible eleven we feel Lage could field moving forward.

GK - Jose Sa

Ever reliable and has a safe pair of hands in Matija Sarkic behind him to push him.

RB - Jonny

Jonny’s experience along a relatively young back four is vital.

CB - Nathan Collins

Summer signing number one from Burnley. Key player.

CB - Max Kilman

Rediscovered his best form and dislodged Willy Boly from the eleven.

LB - Rayan Ait-Nouri

Had a rough opening start to the season but he’s still young and still learning. Undoubtedly still the best option there.

CM - Joao Moutinho

The fine wine that he is. When fit he slots right into a central three.

CM - Ruben Neves

Wolves are hopeful that Neves will sign a new deal in the coming weeks and if he does, what a midfield they have on their hands.

CM - Matheus Nunes

The record signing himself. Big player that goes straight into the XI.

RW - Goncalo Guedes

Another new man on the block and his numbers speak for themselves. When fully up to speed there’s no denying he’s a first choice option.

ST - Raul Jimenez

Remains sidelined through injury for now but when fit he’ll be back into the eleven. With better players around him, we could see the return of free-scoring Jimenez.

LW - Pedro Neto

Gets the nod over Daniel Podence despite Podence arguably starting the season a little better. Neto is still very much on a comeback trail and when fit he’s one of the best in his position.
