Wolverhampton Wanderers have placed West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan at the top of their managerial shortlist, according to a surprise report.

Wolves could spark fury in the Black Country with a shock approach for West Brom manager Corberan.

Gary O’Neil remains in charge of Wanderers for the time being but the pressure he’s under has never been greater. O’Neil is set to manage Wolves for their trip to West Ham United on Monday but it’s unlikely he will carry on beyond then, unless the result is overwhelming positive.

Graham Potter and David Moyes have been linked with the Wolves job in case O’Neil does leave but there’s reportedly now another contender, Albion’s Corberan. Given the intense rivalry between the two clubs, such a move would cause a frenzy.

Journalist Matteo Moretto, who often collaborates with transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano, claims Corberan has been placed ‘at the top’ of Wolves’ shortlist. The reporter states Corberan is a leading contender in case O’Neil is sacked after the visit to West Ham.

Corberan, appointed as West Brom manager in October 2022, has been in charge at The Hawthorns for over two years. The Spaniard did brilliantly to soar the Baggies from the relegation zone to play-off contention in his first season before achieving a top-six finish in his second campaign.

This term hasn’t quite been as successful as Albion, the Championship’s draw specialists with 10 in 18 matches, are well adrift from the automatic promotion chasers. The gap to the top six is just two points, though, so it’s not been the worst start.
