Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a surprise move for Real Madrid superstar Dani Carvajal as Julen Lopetegui looks to sure things up at right-back. Nelson Semedo has become a regular under the new manager but Wolves lack depth in the position and see it as an area to strengthen.

Carvajal, who has won an incredible five Champions League titles with Los Blancos, is said to be keen on making his “dream” come true of heading to the Premier League before the end of his career. Now aged 31, time is running out for the 33-time Spain international to make his aspiration a reality.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Wolves have already made a bid for Carvajal as they believe they can tempt him with the new project under Lopetegui. It would not be a transfer for now, but rather in the summer, with Wanderers’ relegation battle conclusion needed before a decision is made.

The same report states that there are “compelling reasons” that would make “Carvajal think hard” about leaving Madrid for Wolves. As well as allowing him to fulfil his English top-flight dream, a move to Molineux would reunite Carvajal with his childhood friend, Pablo Sarabia.

Having signed for Wolves from Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the transfer window, Sarabia, who played with Carvajal in the Real Madrid youth academy for many years, is said to have already contacted his former colleague about a potential transfer. This is according to El Nacional, a Spanish publication.

El Nacional claims that “Carvajal has already received a call from great lifelong friend Pablo Sarabia”, prompting the thought of potentially leaving the Bernabeu. The report states that Madrid “need money” and the right-back could be a player to depart to free up some funds for new signings.

Having played over 28,000 minutes for Los Blancos with 351 appearances in all competitions since being promoted to the senior team in 2013, it would be tough for Wolves to convince Carvajal to leave. After all, he has largely been a ‘one-club man’ with his sole move away being a loan to Bayer Leverkusen in 2012.

The presence of Sarabia could really boost things, however, as would a strong end to the season under fresh management. Who knows – if Lopetegui can guide Wanderers to a mid-table finish while showing signs of a potential progression for next season, Carvajal could make the switch. It is still early days for this one, though.
