Wolverhampton Wanderers continue their pre-season action on Tuesday evening as they take on Champions League outfit FC Porto at Estadio da Bela Vista in Algarve, Portugal.
Julen Lopetegui’s men have been working hard in the Western European sunshine with preparations now well underway for the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Fans will be in attendance for the fixture which precedes a trip to Dublin to face Scottish Premiership champions Celtic on Saturday.
It’s difficult to work out the starting lineup Lopetegui will go for against Porto as a result of the closely-organised matches, but it’s likely a few out-of-sorts players will get the nod.
Along with those, Wolves will probably put out a number of regular starters to provide some balance before doing something similar for the other pre-season games to come.
With all of that in mind, we’ve had our best go at predicting the XI for the clash in Algarve, with some interesting additions brought in for minutes. Flick through the pages to see.
1. GK - Daniel Bentley
Didn’t start in the friendly against Vitoria SC as game time was handed to new signing Tom King. We reckon Bentley will get the nod ahead of both King and Jose Sa.
2. RB - Matt Doherty
Could get his first proper run-out after being re-signed by Wolves on a free transfer. Needs to build fitness after a serious knee injury.
3. CB - Craig Dawson
Likely to start next season as he ended the last – as a key, experienced figure at the centre of defence. This will especially be the case given Nathan Collins’ departure.
4. CB - Toti Gomes
Was a regular starter at the end of last campaign and could have a good involvement again in 2023/24. No Max Kilman, you ask? He will probably come off the bench with a likely start against Celtic on Saturday.
