Wolves player ratings vs Arsenal as four struggle to go below 6/10 but Mario Lemina and Yerson Mosquera decent

Wolverhampton Wanderers tasted defeat in their first game of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, losing 2-0 at title contenders Arsenal. A much-changed outfit, without the already-departed Max Kilman and Pedro Neto, came away from the Emirates with nothing on a day in which the gulf in class was evident.

Arsenal dominated early proceedings and took a deserved lead on 25 minutes, Kai Havertz heading into an empty net after beating Jose Sa to Bukayo Saka’s tempting cross. Wolves came close to equalising 10 minutes later but David Raya adjusted brilliantly to keep Jørgen Strand Larsen out from close range.

Wolves pressed for an equaliser after the break but were met with stern resistance, Arsenal eventually nicking a second mid-way through the second-half as Havertz set up Saka for a clinical finish. Gary O’Neil’s side were tasked with scoring against last season’s best defence by far and the task proved too difficult, with no goals and no points to take back out of London.
