Wolverhampton Wanderers could launch a shock bid for Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke as they look to bolster their attack following the departure of Fabio Silva.

That’s according to The Sun who state that the former Liverpool and Aston Villa man is ‘one of the options’ Bruno Lage is considering after the black & gold allowed 20-year-old Silva to move to Anderlecht on a season-long loan.

Benteke, 31, has been with Palace since 2016 but has recently fell out of first-choice favour following the recent additions of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Odsonne Edouard.

Like at Selhurst Park, the Belgian wouldn’t be guaranteed first-team football in front of Raul Jimenez but Wolves’ lack-of options could certainly allow him more time on the field and in turn - tempt him to move back to the West Midlands.

The 31-year-old who has just one-year left on his current deal, scored four goals and provided one assist in 31 appearances for Palace last season.

Clauss But No Cigar

Elsewhere and Wolves’ pursuit, if there ever really was one, in Lens full-back Jonathan Clauss looks to have been brought to a halt before it ever really got started.

L’Equipe report that the right-sided defender is on the verge of joining Lens’ Ligue 1 rivals Marseille for a reported €11million.

Manchester United were said to have been in ‘advanced talks’ with the 29-year-old as late as Monday evening but it appears that a move to England in the red of Manchester or black and gold won’t be occuring this summer for Clauss.

Right-back is another position that Wanderers remain incredibly short in going into the 2022/23 season and it comes as a surprise - for the fee that was paid - that Wolves didn’t attack this one a bit more.
