Two big Wolves injury updates emerge after Newcastle draw - including Pedro Neto and one other

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Gary O’Neil has provided two fresh injury updates following Saturday evening’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle United. Fans have been awaiting news on Pedro Neto after the winger went off on a stretcher and O’Neil, who is just as worried as everyone else, has responded.

One of the stars of what has been a successful campaign so far, Neto has one goal and seven assists to his name in the Premier League. The Portuguese’s scintillating form has captured the attention of Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa, as well as clubs all across Europe, but his progress may now be halted.

Neto was just catching his stride in the second half and causing trouble for Newcastle defenders Dan Burn and Fabian Schar when he pulled up and went down after a few painful strides. The Wanderers number seven was just about to shoot from range when he appeared to feel a ping in his hamstring.

“He’s moving around,” O’Neil revealed post-match. “Hamstring injuries obviously have different levels of severity. We’re hoping that it’s on the small side. [Joe] Hodge had a similar one in a cup game and he wasn’t out too long, so we’re hopeful Pedro won’t be missing for long.

“Not many, maybe a couple, will have a winger of Pedro’s quality on the bench. Obviously, when you lose a player of Pedro’s quality, any team in this league would suffer. But we’ll find a way, as a group we’ll find a way.

“It’s more devastating for Pedro really because he’s in such a fantastic spot, works his socks off, and deserves all the plaudits. My thoughts are more around him and making sure we get him back as quickly as possible, showing the world what he can do again,” O’Neil continued.

Wolves will no doubt assess Neto further when they return to Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground on Monday and more certain news is likely to follow ahead of next week’s clash at Sheffield United.

Away from Neto, a fresh Wolves injury update has emerged

On a more positive note, O’Neil has confirmed that Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s return is imminent. “Bellegarde was back on the grass. He’s been working hard out there this morning, so that’s a plus. He’s close, he was close today to be fair. Hopefully, he can be involved at Sheffield United,” O’Neil said.

Signed on Deadline Day for around £15 million, Bellegarde arrived at Molineux with great promise but he has played just twice in the Premier League. Wolves will be hoping his return can provide some firepower from deep. He could even play out wide in Neto’s absence.
