Wolverhampton Wanderers are eager to get their transfer business done early in January, avoiding a repeat of the last-minute deals seen in windows gone by. Reports have emerged today (December 30) that new manager Julen Lopetegui is keen on bringing in a Championship hotshot and an out-of-sorts but professional Manchester United star.

Wolves’ new managerial era got off to a dream start on Tuesday, December 27 as Lopetegui guided his side to a stoppage-time winner away at Everton, claiming their first three points since mid-October. The Wanderers were the only side in the entire Premier League bottom half to earn a single point, let alone all three.

Lopetegui has already decided on one new signing with Atletico Madrid attacker Matheus Cunha announced on Christmas Day, but he is set to be backed further with a few more incomings expected at the dawn of the New Year. One area of priority is right-back, with Nelson Semedo aging and the Wanderers desperate for added squad depth.

Another position being looked at is central midfield, regardless of whether star man Ruben Neves departs Molineux amid speculation surrounding his future. The Daily Telegraph claims Wolves ‘hold an interest’ in Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott, as the England youth international could be available for around £10 million.

The 19-year-old made his Championship breakthrough last season aged just 18, as he played 38 times, scoring four goals and contributing two assists. He has been a key man for Bristol City this term, too, as he has featured in the starting XI 96% of the time. Wolves are not the only club interested, though, as the report states ‘a number of top flight teams’ are monitoring Scott’s progress.

The Daily Telegraph also states that United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a ‘genuine target’, but Crystal Palace and West Ham United are also keen. The 25-year-old, who cost the Red Devils around £50 million in 2019, has made just two Premier League appearances so far this season. It has been widely reported the former England U21 international is likely to depart Old Trafford this winter.
