Wolves loan exit says he is 'undoubtedly staying' at temporary club as major hint dropped over Molineux future

A Wolves star has made a statement of intent in a recent interview.

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fabio Silva is currently out on loan at Las Palmas in La Liga - recently, he has said that he ‘undoubtedly’ sees himself remaining in Spanish football for the foreseeable future. He stated that he was forced to be more physical and ‘defensive’ in other divisions. In contrast, he thinks that playing in La Liga allows him to utilise his strengths more effectively. Additionally, he said that La Liga is the ‘league I always wanted to play in’.

Silva has spent much of his recent career away from the Molineux Stadium. Previous to his loan stint at Las Palmas, he also enjoyed spells at Anderlecht, PSV and Rangers, to varying degrees of success. He has become an important member of Las Palmas’ first team since he arrived at the club. He joined them in late September - following this, he has only been omitted from their starting XI on two occasions.

Speaking in an interview with DAZN on their official YouTube channel, Silva said: “I already said that it is the league that I always wanted to play in, and I had that feeling, I felt that it was the league that was going to give me other things. We are also talking about a league that perhaps after the Premier League is the most popular league, also in terms of opinion and personal taste. Perhaps the places where I went and those leagues where I went, which are perhaps also making me excel in the game here in La Liga.

“Because perhaps in other leagues they forced me to be more defensive, more offensive, to be stronger, to hold the ball more. And now I don’t feel that difficulty so much and I can balance the team. I’m enjoying it more and more and I think that game after game I always manage to improve what are my indexes, what is my quality and that’s why I’m very happy and I think that now is to continue and I see myself undoubtedly staying here for some good times in this league.”

So far this season, Silva has scored three goals and has notched up a single assist over the course of nine games in La Liga. While he is having a decent campaign, Las Palmas are struggling in Spain’s top division - as things stand, La Unión Deportiva are 16th in the league table, having picked up just 12 points from 13 games.

They are having no problem scoring goals - they are, however, having troubles at the back. With 22 goals conceded, they have one of the leakiest defences in La Liga this season. As such, their position in the table is through no fault of Silva’s.

In comparison, Silva has yet to hit the ground running at Wolves. He has scored just four goals over the course of 62 Premier League appearances - therefore, it seems he may be more suited to the slower pace of La Liga, rather than the hustle and bustle of England’s top division.
